Huys Link Community Initiative

Working with & for the Young People @ Risk

CURRENT PROJECTS

Community action against Child Health (COACH)

This is a project undertaken by Huys Link Community Initiative in partnership with Wakiso District Directorate of Health Services (DDHS) with the support from USAID through UPHOLD’s Family and Community Action Grant, to implement a Child Health project whose activities aims at mobilising and sensitising members of the community on the utilisation of health services in the District, promotion of Immunisation, the use of ITNs as a preventive measure and prompt treatment of malaria.

Campaign against Child Labour in the Fishing Communities

The project is designed to prevent the entry of new child labourers in hazardous work, to effect the withdrawal of children already active in hazardous work, and to strengthen the capacity of local institutions and community initiatives to sustain the struggle against child labour at the landing sites of Wakiso District.

Breaking Barrier of Orphans, Vulnerable Children (OVCs):

This project seeks to create an environment at household level, in the community and at school with fairly reduced hindrances for OVCs to access Quality education and be retained in school. The strategies through which to achieve this are psychosocial support activities. Mostly this is done by involving the community members who are trained to own this project for its sustainability.

We consult with the stakeholders such as local leaders in the villages, parishes, and sub counties and at the district councils. Teachers, community volunteer committees, health unit workers and school management committees at every activity are consulted for their contributions.

Training in life skills (Vocational, Music and Drama) Project:

The specific activities under this strategy are designed to cater for the Aids Orphans and other Vulnerable Children in Katabi sub-county of Wakiso district through increased access to vocational training and employable skills as a basis for social and economic empowerment in order to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on them.

The Music for Socio-Cultural and Economic Empowerment of the young people (MUSCEE) project is one of the strategic interventions that HUYSLINCI is using to rehabilitate and empower young people facing social and economic marginalisation. The target group for MUSCEE includes the vulnerable, disadvantaged, abused or exploited young people in the age bracket of 7-23 year coming from wide ranging contexts in the neighbourhood of Abaitaababiri, Entebbe.
