THE HUYSLINCI PROGRAMMES:
Huys Link Community Initiative Programmes are woven into three basic strands:
HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY PROGRAMME:
The rationale for this programme is to contribute to the improvement in the observance of human rights in Wakiso District, by strengthening the capacity of members in the fishing communities to monitor and report human rights violations. This entails raising awareness among the different stakeholders in Wakiso district on observance of human rights and creation of a participatory mechanism for reporting and monitoring of the human rights status of vulnerable members in the community.
Core Focus Areas:
Child Rights Advocacy:
· Child labour (Domestic work and fishing sub-sector)
· Child trafficking in the fishing communities
· Child sexual abuse
Human Rights Monitoring and Reporting:
· Documenting and compiling cases of child abuses
· Formation of community volunteer committee for monitoring the trends of child rights violation in Wakiso District
Human Rights Education and Training:
· Training community members on the rights of children
· Facilitating the formation of child rights clubs in and out of school
HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMME:
To contribute to better health of the Children and Youth at risk by strengthening the capacity of local communities to effectively, and efficiently contribute to protection, survival and development of OVCs and youth at risk in Wakiso District. The programme aims at preventing HIV/AIDS and malaria effects so as to minimize the social and economic effects attributable to HIV/AIDS and malaria illnesses in Waksio District.

- Promotion of immunization

HIV/AIDS:
- Community sensitization
- HIV/AIDS counseling
- Psychosocial Support
Malaria:
- Promotion of mosquito nets as a preventive measure
- Promotion of Home Based Management of Malaria
- Community sensitization on injection safety
BASIC EDUCATION AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME:
The rationale for this programme is to contribute to the development of the OVCs and other youth at risk by making available flexible, affordable, accessible and relevant education and skills development opportunities to them. The programme aims at contributing to the self reliance of Orphans and other vulnerable young people in Wakiso District through increased access to basic education and vocational skills by equipping them with employable skill as a basis for social and economic empowerment. It also aims at raising the status of the disadvantaged young people through music as a tool of positive self-appreciation; psychotherapy; cultural participation; social inclusion & contribution, career option for economic empowerment.
